The charming, seaside community of Solana Beach is nestled along the northern coast of San Diego County, and is approximately a 30 minute drive from downtown San Diego. Its main access routes include Interstate 5, Highway 101, Lomas Santa Fe Drive, and Via de la Valle. The City is home to a vibrant train station that serves both Amtrak and the Coaster, one of only three in San Diego County.
The City lives up to its name with temperatures that average 62 degrees in the wintertime and 77 degrees in the summertime. It offers 1.7 miles of coastline for swimming and surfing. Most days you will see locals drop by to watch the sun set at the award winning Fletcher Cove Park. Overseeing civic operations and policy issues, the City of Solana Beach’s City Council is made up of five elected members, each of whom serve a four-year term. A member is selected to act as the city’s mayor for a one-year term on a rotating schedule. Dedicated to maintaining Solana Beach’s beauty, charm and inherent livability, the City Council welcomes citizens to attend a number of its meetings and stay updated on Council actions through meeting broadcasts and online posting of agendas and minutes.
Solana Beach City Hall
Located on the campus of Earl Warren Middle School, the Solana Beach Branch Library offers a wealth of information and imagination to the surrounding community. In addition to thousands of books, the library provides computer stations and WiFi for visitors.
The centrally located Solana Beach post office is open six days a week to serve the local community. Service offerings include outgoing mail and packages, PO boxes, passport photos and a retail section.
Through rapid emergency response and education on emergency preparedness, the Solana Beach Fire Department helps protect the community it calls home. The department oversees the enforcement of key sections of the Uniform Building Code, Uniform Fire Code, Life Safety code and a number of other fire and fire safety-focused codes; as well as safety components of development and inspections and the use, storage and disposal of hazardous materials.

The Encinitas branch of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for safeguarding the surrounding communities of Del Mar and Solana Beach, as well as Encinitas. In addition to holding contracts for public safety at large-scale events like the San Diego County Fair and Del Mar races; the department operates patrol, investigative, traffic, narcotics, crime prevention and COPPs (Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving) units.
Across two school districts, Solana Beach has a number of high-quality educational institutions to address the needs of students from preschool to high school. With both public and private options, families can easily find an ideal school to help their children learn, grow and excel.
