A Foodie’s Guide to Solana Beach
Written by Marie Williams at Normandy Digital Marketing Solutions.
A small beach town with prime restaurants and quaint cafes, Solana Beach is truly a foodie haven. If you’re looking for a simple croissant and a cup of coffee, or wagyu tri-tip and a glass of red, Solana has it all. We listed our must-try restaurants below.
For Breakfast:
Claire’s on Cedros, has a classic cottage feel with breakfast options for anyone. We highly recommend the caramelized Tahitian vanilla bean french toast and Norwegian smoked salmon, avocado, and bagel. Claire’s is open Mon–Thurs 7 am–2:30 pm, and Fri–Sun 7 am–3 pm.
Naked Cafe is a local chain with a globally influenced menu located across from the Cove. Aside from their “look good naked” options, they also have freshly squeezed juices and a full espresso bar. Naked is open daily from 7:30 am-2:30 pm.
Madeleine Bakery located on South Cedros is the perfect spot to grab a quick bite to eat, with breakfast options from assorted pastries and tartines to classic crepes. Madeleine is open daily from 8 am- 4 pm.
For Lunch:
One of our absolute favorite nooks of Solana Beach is Homestead Cafe and Neighborhood Market. Hosting all-day brunch and lunch, Homestead has a beautiful outdoor patio and indoor marketplace. Our go-to lunch item is the Tarragon Chicken Sandwich, with a glass of white wine of course. They also have a gelato cart, a San Francisco-style trolly for the kids to play on, and events throughout the summer. Homestead is open Wednesday through Sunday 10 am- 4 pm.
Sindi’s Snack Shack is truly a hidden treasure. Located across from Fletcher’s Cove, Sindi’s is home to Asian-style breakfast, lunch, snacks, and bubble tea. I think it’s impossible for us to pick a favorite item as they’re all essential to try. All of their menu items are fresh and unique, such as the kimchi quesadilla and gelato donut sandwich. Sindi’s is open daily from 9 am- 6 pm.
For Dinner:
New to the neighborhood and welcomed with wide-open arms is Rare Society, Brad Wise’s latest restaurant that pays homage to the infamous retro steakhouses that once laid claim to the Las Vegas Strip. Rare Society hosts starters of wood-grilled lamb lollipops, honey Aleppo pepper coconut shrimp, and others that will make your eyes go wide. Open daily at 5 pm except Tuesdays, we recommend getting there early as there’s usually a line.
Located on Highway 101, Alce 101 Kitchen and Tequileria is where farm-to-table meets Southwest flare. Not only does Alce offer the highest quality tequila and mezcal, but a memorable dining experience. If you’re looking for a cocktail to absolutely indulge in, we recommend the serpiente snake, with Blanco tequila, passionfruit, and serrano. Alce also hosts brunch on weekends.
